Lifestyle Health Walks                                                                    by LWG


The Tuesday and Thursday Lifestyle Health Walks began as part of the City Council funded Lifestyle Programme in 2008. After being referred by a local GP clients were helped to make changes to their lifestyle to improve both physical and mental health and well-being.

Since 2012 the Health Walks have been run by volunteer-led Lifestyle Walking Groups (LWG). New members are still signposted by the Lifestyle Programme and may also be referred by GPs or other health professionals. Walkers may bring a companion.

Regular walks use 27 locations in and around the city on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Graded on difficulty and ground covered, they usually take some 40 to 60 minutes at a reasonable pace.
Monthly special walks are more challenging, further afield and take longer. Whether to progress from easier to more difficult walks or not, is the walker’s choice.
